January Virtual Journal Club: "Comparison of Dopamine and Norepinephrine in the Treatment of Shock"

N Engl J Med 2010; 362:779-789

Host Commentary:  In my opinion, this has become somewhat of a "classic" Emergency Medicine article. It came out a few years ago and was offered as one of the LLSA review articles for 2012.  It is a comparison between dopamine and norepinephrine in the treatment of shock.  In general it concluded that dopamine was associated with more complications. Although I still find instances to use dopamine (for example when I don't have central line access) I find that norepinephrine is more frequently my preferred pressor.
